McClung Brings Sixers First Champion in 41 Years

Image
The 2023 NBA Dunk Contest was one for the ages, and I couldn't be prouder of Mac McClung for taking home the title. The young guard out of Texas put on an incredible display of athleticism and creativity, showcasing his vertical leap and ability to soar through the air. McClung, who had previously gained national attention for his high-flying dunks in high school and college, came into the contest as a relative unknown in the NBA. However, he quickly made a name for himself with his first dunk of the night, a stunning leap-frog board tap reverse that brought the crowd to its feet. From there, McClung only got better. He showed off his versatility with a series of dunks that included windmill slams, double-pump reverses, more 360s. His final dunk of the night, a soaring 540-spin two-handed slam, sealed the victory and cemented his status as a rising star in the NBA. What impressed me most about McClung's performance was his fearlessness. He attacked the rim with a relentless en...

Buh-bye Ben, Hellooooo, Harden!!!

Image
Last Thursday, as the clock ticked away from the trade deadline and we were all about to turn back into pumpkins that had to hang on to Ben Simmons for another half a year at least, the Sixers pulled off a miracle and traded Ben Simmons for NBA MVP, All-Star, and Kobe's favorite player of this era (RIP Kobe), James Harden. James Harden is so ridiculously good at basketball and deserves to have a true shot at a title with Joel Embiid. Now, he has that opportunity.  Ben Simmons is terrible. He single-handedly lost us that Atlanta series last year in the playoffs. That was absolutely unacceptable and he really did show his true colors. Somehow, he made everyone think he's a good player even though he can't shoot, and won't shoot. James Harden is an insanely huge upgrade to him in every way imaginable, even if Simmons had decided to keep playing through this season. Which he hasn't. Despite this reality, the national media seem to be obsessed with Simmons all of a sudd...

Ben Simmons Punk'd Us All

Image
I haven't updated this since the start of COVID so alot has changed since my last post. However one thing remains the same -- the Sixers are still Championshipless. And Ben Simmons is on the way out. Let's talk about this for a minute. Ben Simmons represents a lot of what's wrong with the NBA. Namely, a 25-year-old kid is making $200 million and everyone's upset at him for acting spoiled. Let me tell you something about having $200 million. Oh wait, never mind, let me not because neither I, nor most of you my dear readers, will ever come close to sniffing that kind of money in our lifetimes (no matter how much bitcoin you own). The dude is loaded. He's an incredible talent that can't quite hack it yet in the bigs. Maybe he never will. But good lord, you earn that kind of dough, you play scared in front of millions of people, you WILL get flamed. You deserve to get flamed.  Does Simmons gotta leave Philly, NOW? Yes, absolutely. Is he a bonafide fraud? I don'...

RIP Kobe

Need to take a break from Sixers to honor the man Kobe Bryant, tragically passing away yesterday with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others in a freak helicopter crash. I remember in 6th grade, sitting on the bleachers of my middle school gymnasium waiting for class to start and my gym teacher discussing with other students about Kobe taking Brandi to the prom. This memory is etched into my brain, before I was really that interested in pro basketball beyond what the Bulls were doing. Really, this was in 1996 when the Sixers were terrible and Allen Iverson was still a year away from getting drafted. But I knew about Kobe, despite Brandi being a much bigger celebrity at the time. Fast forward to 2001, and Kobe was the villain. Our hometown hero had vanquished his hometown, fully embracing his Angeleno status. He took advantage of his star acumen to get to LA, gaming the draft system so he could get traded there no matter who drafted him. He was young, cocky, aloof. He had ...

Brett Brown Was Right -- Sixers Get it Together by Christmas

Image
Just like coach Brett Brown said earlier this season, the Sixers look to have gotten things together by Christmas by handling the league record-leading Bucks, blowing them out handily on Christmas day. The Bucks came into Philly as the best team in the NBA, according to their record. Philly had shown struggles over the course of the season. Playing hot then cold, beating supposedly good teams like Boston and Miami, but then losing to bad teams, including blowing big leads to teams like Denver. This got most Sixers fans very upset and concerned because they were billed early on as a league contender for a title. Why, people asked, do contenders lose to crap teams? Why do they not try? Why don't they seem to care? However, these rightfully concerned fans all forgot one thing, and one thing alone -- Coach Brown had this entire thing under control all along. He even said so himself when he was quoted as saying that this new team will have it all together by Christmas. So there ...

76ers Best Home Récord in the NBA

The Sixers just won their 14th straight home win which marks their longest home victory streak since the 1966 season when they won 22 straight games. They are now the only undefeated team at home left left in the NBA. For this reason I am making an emergency blog post because the Sixers are that good at home which is a huge testament to the fans of Philadelphia and it shows that it is true that there’s no better fans in the entire league than the fans of the 76ers. Yes I understand it’s easier to win at home everybody knows that. But with that said it really means something to win 14 in a row to start the season. They are 14 and zero. Every other team in the league has lost at least one game at home. For example, the Celtics were undefeated until the Sixers went to Boston and beat them. Therefore the Celtics are no longer undefeated at home and the Sixers are now the only undefeated team left left in the NBA. Ben Simmons Said that the reason they’re undefeated at home is because they w...

Matisse Thybulle ROY

Image
I know the season is early but so far Matisse Thybulle is playing so well that he should be considered for Rookie of the Year. If he wins, this will be the second time the Sixers have had a ROY since Michael Carter Williams during the process and post-process eras. Again it is early and I don't mean to jump the gun but he is just playing that good. And with Zion collecting splinters in his rear so to speak by not playing due to injuries Matisse's time is now. And he's showing it. During the game earlier this week against Denver when most of the starters struggled and EMBIID continued to make goofy turnovers Matisse shone. He popped 3 ball after 3 ball and played defense with a rugged veteran's court sensibilities but a rookie 22-year-old's feistiness and energy. Whatta guy! On a team full of All-Stars and proven veterans, Thybull has on numerous occasions such as this one proved himself to be the game's MVP. This stuff matters folks and deserves serious recogn...
